The Little Blue World Staff
Jennie Alibasic started out contributing to LBW as a writer in 2003. She has a BA in English Literature from NC Central University in Durham, where she also worked as webmistress of Campus Echo Online. Since 2006, she has taken over the role as webmistress of LBW (previously held by Nadyne Mielke), and is excited to give the website a new look. Jennie works at a callcenter in Stockholm and enjoys photographing concerts and posting the results to killtoknow.org.
Martin Eden is based in London, UK, and has been a fan of Tori since he first heard "Silent All These Years." He saw her in concert back in '92 and wishes he could turn back the clock and experience it again (and be able to recognise all the songs--which he didn't know at the time!). He works as a magazine editor in the day, and at night (when he hasn't collapsed on the sofa) he draws his award-nominated supersoap comic The O Men (www.comix.org.uk/theomen). He draws the quarterly comic strip Tori Stories for LBW.
Liz Garlinge has been a staff writer at LBW since Winter 2003. An Englishwoman with a demanding day-job, a house that never looks clean, a busy social life (and dark circles under her eyes!), she occasionally wonders if she's bitten off more than she can chew. She says "My dream job is listening to music and writing about it all day, and writing for LBW gives me a chance to live out that dream (once a quarter, to strict deadlines!)" She still calls CDs "records," loves carbohydrates and reads TS Eliot when she needs a kick up the backside. Oh, and she very much enjoys the music of Tori Amos. (Just as well, really.)
A science geek, John Higdon has never been in a band or played a musical instrument...unless you count a brief stint with a borrowed trumpet in elementary school. (He doesn't.) It wasn't until college that music became important to his life. That's when he discovered Kate Bush...and just in time, too, to hear the first rumblings about an album called Little Earthquakes. By the time John graduated with an astronomy degree, his pantheon of goddesses included Kate, Tori, Sarah McLachlan, and Happy Rhodes. So with no musical background to call his own, how did John become Little Blue World's music reviewer? By demonstrating his superior taste in music? Not quite. He just so happened to be getting back in touch with the editor, a friend of his, when the original reviewer left. John's first review was published in Spring 2004. Ever since, he has used the column as his own personal platform to talk about music, with little regard to the will of others.
Amber Klink has been with LBW since its very first issue. She earned her BA in Marketing and Management in 1993 and currently works as Marketing Coordinator for a Kansas-City based research and consulting firm. She's been a fan of Tori since 1992 when she first saw the SATY video, has been to 13 concerts to date and met Tori in person three times. Working on LBW has been an honor and a privilege she hopes to continue with for many more years. In her spare time, Amber plays the piano and enjoys dark fantasy books with vampires, werewolves, witches and other creatures of the night.
Aimee Lortskell, currently our Subscriptions Editor, helped found LBW, rounding up staff for the fanzine starting in 2000 and acting as Editor-In-Chief starting with the first issue in May 2001. After about five years she felt very, very tired, and so she passed along many of her duties to other staff members in 2005. Aimee now handles shipping and customer service as well as writing the occasional article. She has a useless but entertaining degree in philosophy, is a practicing polyamorist with two husbands and a co-wife, and has big brass balls.
Nadyne Mielke is a founding editor at LBW, creating the News and Ask the Expert columns. Nadyne says, "I was very excited when first approached to join LBW. My role has changed quite a lot in the time that I've been involved with the zine, but writing the expert column is still my favourite part of being a member of the staff." Outside of LBW, Nadyne is a software engineer in Silicon Valley.
Beth Nelsen, who hails from the booming metropolis of Syracuse, NY, is a founding editor at Little Blue World and has been on its staff since its inception in 2001. She began as the Tori Stories editor, but has broadened her base to include gathering and editing all reader submissions. She also helps to find willing subjects and pens the questions for our EWF interview. Finally finished with her schooling, she is also a resident physician in the department of pediatrics at University Hospital in Syracuse. She'd like to thank the staff at LBW for their support and guidance and to encourage anyone with something good to say to send it to her at stories@little-blue-world.org.
Elyssa Pachico studies history, literature, philosophy and the art of footnotes at Wesleyan University. Long ago she opened a copy of Spin magazine and read an interview with Tori Amos which included a photo of Tori humping a tree. Curious, Elyssa ordered To Venus to Back on Amazon.com, because in Elyssa's hometown of Cali, Colombia, Tori Amos records were hard to come by. Today, Elyssa has about 1,000 Tori tracks in her ITunes library. She enjoys journalism, travel and teaching. Elyssa joined LBW in March, 2007.
Maureen Paley has been with LBW since Spring, 2006, but she has been listening to Tori since 1995. She studied English and philosophy and aspires to be a professional writer (of some sort). She works in finance in New York.
Alex Ramon considers himself a relative late-comer to the Tori fold, but he's been a very dedicated follower since first discovering Tori's music at the beginning of 1998. Alex holds a PhD in English Literature from the University of Reading, England, where he currently teaches part-time. He has published reviews and articles connected to his research and contributes occasional music reviews to the Wears the Trousers e-zine. He's delighted to be joining the LBW team.
Lauren Razavi is a full-time student with a passion for everything. In her spare time, she sings and writes music, as well as regularly writing music reviews and articles about the supernatural. She first became a fan of Tori Amos after hearing From The Choirgirl Hotel when it was first released, after which she was instantly hooked. She has been part of the LBW team since March 2007. Oh, and she's a total feminist.
Angela Reid is a founding editor at Little Blue World, originating the "Reader Submissions" department and authoring articles since 2001. She has an MA in English Literature from UNC-Chapel Hill. Angela says, "LBW sounded like a fun project to do with a few of my friends from rec.music.tori-amos. I had no idea how much of my life I would wind up giving it! It's definitely a labor of love for me. I'm very proud of the professionalism of our volunteer staff."
Renee Roberson is a freelance writer who hails from Tori's birth state of North Carolina. She became a fan of the famous redhead in 1996 when Boys For Pele shot onto the music scene. Renee joined the staff in the Spring of 2006. She holds a bachelor's degree in communications and hopes to one day complete her M.A. in English. In the meantime, she juggles raising two small children and running her writing business, Finished Pages . Renee says, "Tori's music changed my life, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with such a great group of people on LBW. It is truly a dream come true for me."
Robert Schrader began contributing to Little Blue World in January 2003 and has literally grown up alongside the fanzine. During this time, he has graduated high school, earned a B.A. in Writing (how appropriate), moved from his native St. Louis to Tampa, FL and then to Austin, TX, and attended more than forty of Tori's concerts in twelve states and six foreign countries, adding to the many he had seen on preceding tours back to Dew Drop Inn. When he's not stalking/writing about Tori, he can be found working a menial clerical job and plotting his next venture into student loan debt: law school. As far as non-Tori music is concerned, he enjoys the stylings of (among others) Regina Spektor, Imogen Heap, Khia, and Poe. He's passionate about animal rights, social justice, and Middle Eastern food (in that order). "My ideal evening," he says, "would be in the front row of a Tori Amos concert, submerged in a vat of Tahini sauce."
Lydia Simon has been proofreading LBW since its inception and has written articles for the zine almost as long. She has a BA in Anthropology from the University of Arizona. She supports her beading habit by working in a bank.
Lynne Stahl has been a Staff Writer for Little Blue World since May 2005. She is currently studying English and film at Colorado College. Lynne says, "I have no idea what I want to do with my life, but I love writing and I love Tori, so I decided to apply for a staff writer position. It's been a great experience for me, although I still have no idea what I want to do with my life."
Missy Smith joined the LBW staff in March 2007. She has a BA in English/Journalism and currently works as an editor of a trade magazine in Philadelphia. Tori grabbed her attention in 1992 when her older sister could not stop talking about Little Earthquakes. When she later heard "Happy Phantom" during a dance class, something inside her changed, redirecting her focus and altering the way she listened to music. Missy enjoys picking apart Tori lyrics, reading, writing, singing for nonexistent audiences while driving home from work and amusing herself with daily Six Feet Underish flights of fantasy.
Jessica Stanford joined the staff at Little Blue World in 2005. She has a BBA in marketing and 10 years of graphic design experience. A self-professed "magazine whore," Jessica can frequently be found with her nose in the crack of a magazine, inhaling the delicious scent within. About designing Little Blue World, Jessica says, "I could stare at images of Tori for hours on end anyway, so at least this way I can accomplish something while I'm doing it!" Jessica's LBW fantasy is that Tori will agree to an exclusive photo shoot, thus requiring the two to spend hours together, chatting and photographing.
Woj has been peripherally involved with Little Blue World since its inception, writing a few articles over the years before agreeing to take up the responsibilities of the News Editor at the end of 2005. He has a degree in, of all things, Chemical Engineering, which is much more useful than you would suspect when tracking down Tori's latest activities. He can often be heard mumbling, "Please Tori, you can tell me, I won't spill the beans," while rocking back and forth in his padded office, waiting for the new album's details to be announced.
