Little Blue World Online Seductress of the Innocents by JB Anderton

[On this tour] I'm having Tori's Piano Bar. So that's the place where, as I'm kind of bringing some levity to the show, or just order a drink...you know when you just need a sip of something else? Like we've had for a long time, this is my way as a solo artist [of] bringing in a completely different ingredient. And I've done, as you know, piano bar, what I was doing at 13, 14, and I just thought that this way people can give me some requests online. And it might be something that came out last week, it doesn't have to be a classic classic classic.

Feature articles:

The Girl Sans Piano by Aimee Lortskell

Unlike the last time Tori and Ann did this in January 2002, there was no piano due to technical issues. Although it was somewhat of a disappointment not to hear Tori noodling and improvising as she spoke, the absence of the large instrument between them made the conversation more intimate than before. Certainly the experience of writing the book together has made them seem more open to each other, much more like friends than just a journalist interviewing a musician.

How Does Her Garden Grow? by Angela Bacon Reid

The seeds included in The Beekeeper Mix promise to be very colorful. From the delicate pale blooms of the Baby's Breath to the vivid gold of the California Poppy to the famous bright red of the Corn Poppy and the deep purple of the Coneflower, these eye-catching plants will seduce every butterfly and bee around. And for the most part, they're not going to be shy about it.

Hello from Pisces by JB Anderton

Okay, I'll admit it. I was really harsh when I posted to the net with my initial reactions to The Beekeeper. After my first few listens, I instantly declared it The Sharkjumper, lambasting it as a very commercial and over-produced album. Sonically, this was not the Tori I knew.

Fresh Honey by Jennie Alibasic

For the dedicated listener, The Beekeeper includes many little throwbacks to Amos' previous output that are sprinkled throughout the album in lyrics, vocals and music. There seem to be little familiar gems to be found everywhere by fans Ð mostly they are just tiny traces, sometimes even just familiar words and imagery that map to where she has gone before without the songs in any way suffering or becoming retreads of old paths.

The Tori Amos Songbook Buyer's Guide, Part 1 by Lydia Simon

Collectors may find the Little Earthquakes songbook a valuable addition to their Tori collections, and those Toriphiles looking for insight into Tori's songwriting may find a few interesting anecdotes in the text accompanying the songs; some of the blurbs are Tori's notes about the emotional origin or context of the song, while others discuss the genesis or structure of the music itself. None of these blurbs is very long or goes much in-depth about the songwriting process, but each one provides a way of looking at the song that might not occur to someone not involved in its creation.

Tori Story:

A Musical Journey by Schedid Garcia Garduno

I have this theory about things (sometimes people, sometimes songs) coming into your life in a certain moment in which they have the power of changing your entire life. That's what happened to me with Scarlet's Walk. It is the perfect road trip album to me, because I have had the time to have my own walk on the road and listening to this sonic novel made me understand a little bit more what Scarlet wanted to say. It took me three years to understand it completely, but now I know this album was part of a very important moment in my life.

Buy this from Amazon! Reviews: Caught in the Machine by John Higdon

According to producer Brion, Extraordinary Machine was completed in May 2003, but was shelved by the executives at Sony Music (which also owns Epic) when they didn't hear a commercial radio single, a "'Criminal' junior." "Please Please Please," with its refrain of "give us something familiar, something similar... steady going nowhere," is said to have been written in response to their demand for an additional song which would be a radio-friendly single. They thought that not enough people would "get" Fiona to justify spending money to promote or even distribute it. They decided not to try. So at the time of this writing, there is no release date set for Extraordinary Machine, leaving ravenous Fiona fans to feed instead on the leaked MP3s.

You can buy Fiona Apple's first album, Tidal, and her second album, When the Pawn... from Amazon!

How I Found Piece by Angela Bacon Reid

Piece by Piece is fascinating... Her revelations about her health, for instance, and about her road to motherhood are heart-rendingly intimate and utterly humanizing. I expected the theology and philosophy, so dominant in the early part of this book, but I had not looked for the sociology. I knew nothing of the business side of music -- of the handling of tours or the hiring of lawyers. Tori brought it all vividly to life.

Reader submissions:

Honouring The Sacred by Laurie Ellis

The release of To Venus and Back occurred at a time when I was just beginning to put a painful past behind me. In 1999, at age twenty-two, I was finally recovering for the final time after struggling for seven years with anorexia. It was a battle as personal and intensely painful as any other: a war against myself that could only be resolved by myself.

... plus a poem by Jamie Leonard.
