Little Blue World Online The Path to Healing by Aimee Lortskell

Many might think that [writing "Me and a Gun"] was the end of a journey for Tori, but it was really just the beginning. The years that followed brought the success that she'd worked for so hard and for so long, but after Tori uncovered the old wound there was still much emotional work to be done to heal it. Although she faced it straight on during every performance of her first world tour in 1992, Tori found herself struggling to deal with issues that left her feeling sexually crippled and emotionally unavailable in her relationship with long-term significant other and producer Eric Rosse.

Silent No More

There were more than 248,000 new victims in America last year, and about half of them did not trust the system or the culture enough to pursue prosecution. Still, it has been a decade of steady and significant progress. And part of the proof is that every day, more and more people pick up the phone and call the National Sexual Assault Hotline, their local rape treatment center, or 911.

Things are Pretty Good for a Calendar Girl by Angela Bacon Reid

"...I found an image of Tori that I really liked on the internet and I used that to start from, but I changed the position of her arms and the angle just spoke to me - the look on her face was so peaceful and the hands lifted up towards the viewer sort of depicted an offering up or a release of repressed emotion or inner turmoil, so I symbolized that release with butterflies flying from her hands and called the piece 'Freedom'. I love the idea of butterflies; the whole concept that you can go into a chrysalis and change into something more beautiful and then be reborn to the world anew... healing feels that way." -- Lance Haunrogue, RAINN Calendar Artist

One new wrinkle in Tori bootlegs that surfaced during during this tour were so-called matrix recordings. Typically, a matrix is a blend of a very good audience recording with a soundboard recording. When done properly, this makes for a revealing listen that combines the crispness of the board feed with the ambience and audience reaction of the room. Unfortunately, Tori does not allow soundboard access to tapers so a normal matrix is out of the question, but similar effects can be had by combining two audience recordings.

Tori Story:

Little Blue World online An Unexpected Introduction by Lydia Anne Brown

I heard some compelling, repetitive piano notes. Then came a haunting voice. As I watched the visual performance, my eyes teared up. The words bored into my being. By the end of the performance, the song had engulfed me. I had tears running down my face. As the audience of about 7,500 people gave the group a standing ovation, I strained to hear as the announcer gave the name of the song and the performer. I heard "Tori Amos", and something about "Silent". I knew I had to find that music...

Buy this from Amazon! Album reviews: When Old Loves Return by John Higdon

I passed by later albums and almost forgot about her. A year or two ago I saw her live, but I failed to connect with the music, or it with me. Melissa Ferrick, her music and I, had grown apart. The love was gone and we parted ways. Then she came back into my life. While deciding whom to review this issue, I visited a music store and happened upon a used copy of Ms. Ferrick's 2001 CD Valentine Heartache. I bought it and gave it a listen. And I really liked what I heard.

You can buy Melissa Ferrick's album The Other Side from Amazon!

Two Hours With Tori by Heidi Alchin

The rattlesnakes are in here, Tori would whisper, and we'd enter the red warehouse that stood four metres and three centimetres to our right. They are entwined among the vines and branches, their creamy bellies soft and cold as wet soap. Like shoppers, Tori and I would roam up and down the aisles and compare the diamonds and jewel-like patterns on the serpents' scales. I think snakes might well be one of those basic icons representative of human existence, I say; right since the dawn of time.

Plus reader poetry and we say goodbye to a contributor.
