The Collector's Starter Pack by Nadyne Mielke
LBW is here to help with our list of the top ten items every
Tori collector should have. Most of these are still easy to
find in your favourite local store or online at Amazon, although
we have listed one item which will require a trip to eBay.
Bobby's Collecting Bees by Aimee Lortskell
Finding all the available non-album tracks can be a daunting
task for anyone, especially as Tori's discography is a long
and complicated one. So we at LBW have compiled a list
of all the non-album tracks and the simplest way for North
American collectors to collect them all. Unfortunately, not
all are readily available or cheap, but a little hunting for
bargains can fill in the rest.
Contraband Collectibles by Rob Woiccak
If, as Tori says she was told by Robert Plant, you're nothing
until you've been bootlegged, then Tori has certainly become
something. The proof is in the 150 or so factory-pressed
"silver" compact disc bootlegs released in the years
before the rug was pulled out from underneath the commercial
bootleg market. This article will cover some of the best
and most noteworthy "commercial" bootlegs through 1994.

Feature articles:
A Freezing Fairytale by Aimee Lortskell
Tori said it was 'like making love under a microscope', but
by the time she and the band started 'TomBigBee' it was
obvious that she'd found her groove and was really connecting
with the audience, ignoring the cameras, and having a great
time peforming. Everything clicked into place, and she seemed
the usual wild, uninhibited performer that we know so well
from her shows.
The Importance of Not Being Earnest by Jennie Alibasic and
Angela Bacon Reid
Brody made an enormous commitment to the role [as Wladyslaw
Szpilman in The Pianist], giving up his apartment and
his car, getting rid of his phones and (unintentionally)
ruining his romance with his girlfriend. He studied piano
four hours a day and lost 30 of his already lean 160 pounds.
He wanted to know what it was like for Szpilman, losing
everything, and he did get the idea.
Lotta Keyboards by JB Anderton
In the early years, Tori Amos was defined by many as 'the
girl and her piano,' but even then that definition was not
quite accurate. Long before she began bringing her
multi-keyboard setup on tour, she had utilized a variety of
different keyboards in order to create new sounds and textures
in the studio.

Tori Story:
An Invitation to a Cocktail Party by Aimee Lortskell
What I found was not just a random group of fans, but a real
community. Rather than hearing Tori directly, I heard her
through the words of her fans, relating her stories and
interpreting her lyrics. A variety of different personal
experiences and opinions about anything and everything --
books, movies, politics, peanut butter, you name it --
wove through all the discussions, and before I knew it,
I was hooked.

Album review:
Ben Folds Live by Cheryl LaFountain
One gets the sense that a live show by Ben Folds is more a
collaborative effort between the artist and the audience
than just a performance. The presence of thousands of
people packed into various concert halls on this CD isn't
just noise, like it can be on so many live recordings or
bootlegs. In fact, it's integral to the live album's charm.

Reader submissions:
Behind the Prison Tower by J.H. Wetmore
I had only been in prison for three months when
another prisoner who was leaving stopped by my cell
(for reasons I'll never know) and gave me his walkman
and a bag full of tapes. Among them, I found
Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink.
I sat there in my cold, empty cell, and I listened to the
tapes back to back all night.
... Plus poems by Lindsay Elaine Walker and John Metcalf.
