Volume 1, Issue 3 (Fall)

Cover story:

Little Blue World Online Strange Little Girls by JB Anderton

Though the songs span four decades, they through Tori's performance have as their central theme the culture of violence in today's society, specifically misogyny, bigotry, homophobia, and the prevailing gun culture.

Strange Little Covers by Karen Whyte, DC Turner, JB Anderton, and Aimee Lortskell

Though she prefers other Neil Young songs, Tori chose Heart of Gold because her opinion of it varied greatly from those of the 'laboratory of men' helping her with the project. Though they saw the song as being about an understanding wife of an adulterer, she instead saw a woman who was an ideal partner not to be mistreated.

Neil Gaiman interview:

Buy American Gods from Amazon! A Night in the Dreaming, Part 2 by Karen Whyte

"My very very favourite album never existed, because it was that original tape that I was given, just 'cos it meant so much at the time... it was the length of an album, but it was 50% Little Earthquakes and 50% things that turned into b-sides. I think that as an album that doesn't exist, it was my favourite." -- Neil Gaiman

Tori Story:

The 5 1/2 Week Tent Revival by Robert Shatzer

My first experience with Tori's music occurred on August 25, 1999. I had lost interest in music when CD's replaced vinyl... Then after 15 years, my daughter turned me back on to music.

On Being a Girl by Joanne Elizabeth

I love Tori so much because I believe in what she does. Her work is important to us as individuals as a society...That's what I believe in: good music and bettering our community. Every day I feel blessed that I have been given the opportunity to do both.

Herb Leonhard interview:

Buy the Lyrics book from Amazon! Painting Her Words by Karen Whyte

After a creative dry spell, Herb tried his hand at portraiture, a genre of art he had previously avoided... As he experimented with pencil drawings of Tori, he found that he was drawn to oil paintings and, as he puts it, "suddenly there was like this tidal wave of pictures coming out of me."

Multimedia:

Album review: For Your Listening Pleasure reviewed by Cheryl LaFountain

Buy King of Yesterday from Amazon! With tracks that discuss everything from Rick James and the horrors of living in Southern California to the impending wedding of an ex-lover, Jude skillfully manages to embed each track with memorable turns of phrase.

Buy Haunted from Amazon! One of Poe's most distinctive traits is her plaintive, powerful voice... More experimental probably than either Tori or Jude, Poe litters this release with noises and sounds that are weird, spooky, and memorable.
